The Family Unit - February 3, 2023

The Family Unit

“The ultimate economic and spiritual unit of any civilization is still the family.” This Clare Boothe Luce quote remains as valid today as when she first uttered her brilliant insight.

My father came from a broken home and was even the poster child for a Presbyterian orphanage when he was just a boy. My mother also came from a broken home when her mother divorced her husband because of his abusive behavior. I come from a broken home as my mother divorced my father when I was just eight. Hurt people hurt people. Who will teach them how to be good parents?

The ideal family unit consists of one man, one woman, and their children. Men and women need each other desperately.

Good parents assume obligations. They work to provide food, clothing, and shelter. They plan and provide for their children’s education. They spend time with their children and guide them in developing a sense of spirituality and morality to establish the positive life habits that will help them lead good, productive, and perhaps even happy lives.

But the rate of divorce in America has been skyrocketing for over 100 years now and it’s getting worse.

Too many children are born outside marriage and that has been creating problems for generations. Sexual attraction begins relationships but often the necessary life knowledge of what will be required is missing. For the government to pay single women to have multiple babies outside of marriage is pure stupidity.

Accidental pregnancies can force young couples into premature marriages. Sometimes those relationships work but only when couples dedicate themselves to each other and their children. But people who were never raised in a good and loving family are handicapped. They just don’t know how to do it.

Often fighting begins and when couples don’t know how to compromise, how to work together, the family suffers. Then what becomes of the children who are given less than a fair shot at a decent life? When fathers take no responsibility for their children and just become “baby daddies,” the problems of social, racial, and class inequities grow exponentially.

Husbands and wives grow up and mature together as they raise their children. They learn to settle differences by being respectful and loving.

Raising a good family takes love, money, time, and unlimited energy.

Let’s help make the family the sacred union that it can be again – every child and every family in America will benefit.
